Communication Core Concepts
The Golden Rule is a timeless moral precept: "Do
unto others as you would have others do unto you."
Unfortunately, this doesn't work very well as a guide
to effective communication. The problem is that not
everybody wants to be treated the same way --
we all have our own special patterns of giving, receiving,
and processing information.
The key to effective communication is adjusting what
we say and how we say it to fit other people's communication
patterns: communicating the way they prefer,
not the way we do. This is the essence of
the New Golden Rule:
|
Do
unto others as they want to be done unto.
Communicate with people the way they prefer,
not the way you prefer.
Bridge the Communication Gap gives individuals and
teams the skills they need to recognize what's important
to other people and to translate their requests, proposals,
and instructions so that they will hear, understand, and act
on them.
